I say walk away. One afternoon of sandblasting and you're gonna end up with a convertible. Save for something better. Chasing rough diamonds is more expensive than dropping $2k on something you'll need to do a lot less work to.

If you don’t think it’s a good enough of a deal to drive the whole way to see it, it’s probably not a good enough deal to drop cash.

Save the poor shlep from wasting 2/3 hours driving back and forth with it.
