Electronic shift control

I'm looking for a good tutorial on electronic shift control All I seem to find is offers to sell me a $1000 shift controller!

What I'm doing is putting a 4r70w behind my 351W and swapping the works into my 93 Ranger.None of my ECM's supported electronic shifting and I'm toying with the idea of paddle shifters.

Any ideas?

there are sources of very specific info that you will find on your tranny as well as your engine.
i went to the library and for about 15 bucks, downloaded and printed the whole online-tech book, about 600 pages, for my superduty.
it will tell you pin breakout,circuits, voltages, modes of operation,
all specs.

i always enjoy seeing stuff "put together" that ends with that "wow" factor.
