Electric vs Mechical Oil Pressure Gauge

Wondering if one is more reliable then the other.
I need a real gauge in the ranger, and I need to put one in my old car as well.

Would be a lot easier running wiring then a hose, and I would think things could go wrong easier with a run of hose vs wires.

My preference is for a mechanical gauge. One caveat--don't use the plastic hose supplied with the kit. Get a chunk of 1/8" copper tubing and put a couple of ~2" coils in it close to the engine fitting. I did that with a new '68 Ford, and have transferred that same piece of tubing to several vehicles since (I lost count of how many). It presently serves on my tractor.

Electrical. Its quicker, more reliable, it always works, it's less likely to malfunction or leak, its easier to install and route.

If you're going to run a mechanical oil pressure gauge, get an isolator and mount it on the engine side of the firewall somewhere. This will prevent any hot (flammable) oil from spraying inside the cab of your truck if a line ever started leaking.

Or get an electric version. It's what I've always used, is easier to install and less hassles.
