Mostly because i want to said i told you so but hey if im proved wrong I will say "damn i was wrong" but yo ustill wont see me hucking my turbos for an heave electric blower my truck already weighs in at 4400lbs

Thanks for the support. It'll be several weeks at least before I get going on this. I'm in Massachusetts and it's been mighty cold and snowy up here (Don't have the luxury of a heated garage.) Will keep you posted, though. Look for a new thread on this. Think I'll title it "The Ranger Experiment".

Just one final note:

I have to make it absolutely and abundantly clear. I agree a turbo is a proven, time-tested method which adds significant power to the 2.3. I know. Some years ago a friend/tenant of mine went on vacation and left me the keys to his Merkur. Wow, what a blast it was to drive that thing. Hearing - and feeling - the turbo kick in was a thrill. But THAT kind of power is not my intention. Dont want to spend the money or the time. A modest increase is the goal at relatively low cost. And, if some new discovery is made along the way, then that's even better. This planned project will be done with backyard DIYers (like myself) in mind, not career Motorheads.

cat, give the guy a break. this man has the balls to undertake something we all dont have the resources or time to do, the feat he is undertaking speaks for itself, and if he pulls it off he deserves full credit. just cuz it theoretically cant or shouldnt be done and the odds themselves are stacked is bad enuff, negative input isnt helping any. i say sit back and let the man breathe/work, he may surprise you.

its not a question of IF it will work. it will. its only a matter of cost efficiency. CAN he scrounge together the necissary parts for less than a standard turbo system? guess we'll see....

im sure it can be done, but there are those that will argue (as we have seen b4 in previous posts) that it cant be done. im just covering those comments b4 they are posted again. im watching and waiting on this one, i am intrigued by the ingenuity and rarity of this project.

Obviously a correctly engineered electic supercharger WILL work. The issue here is that it simply isn't practical. This is not a crazy idea, it's an idea that has probably been around for over half a century, and tried by many people both ameture and professional. It was deamed impractical for a number of reasons that I don't need to mention. It has been deemed impractical time and time again, and many idiots have wasted time, money, and forum threads on it. So forget it. Learn from history. Move onto something else.

if you want something that hasnt be done try a rotrex supercharger. it a centifugal supercharger however it has a friction drive. They sound wicked and have an effeciency range close to a turbocharger. There also very compact. The whole electro turbo deal is a waste. We had a big discussion on theturboforums.com about electro turbocharging and what it woudl take. ALl in all the outcome of the discussion (with people who are engineers and have had 30+ years dealing with boost....) it came down to] its impractical, ineffecient, and costly, and low gains are to be expected from it. its a waste of time period. I love thinking outside the box but some thoughts need practial reason behind it. If your looking to get a=n electro turbo to work just to say i have an electro turbo you may succeed. However you will not gain much so whats the point.
