hey im stumped i have a 1993 ford ranger 2.3l supercab, im trying to remove the valve cover to replace the gasket but on the 93 2.3's the egr bar has to be removed b/c it runs right over the back top of the valve cover and you cant get the valve cover off till you remove the egr tube/bar whatever, the bolt that holds it on sits right at the header and there is no room for a wrench and to get leverage, i was thinking about using a crowfoot wrench but dont know what size the bolt is ive tried 7/8 and 18mm both are to small does anyone know what size crowfoot wrench i need to get that bolt loose?

I used a pipe wrench on mine (had just enough to break it loose, 1/8 turn). Ive got a 91 2.3 short bed, I dont know if the engine compartments are radically different.

I'd imagine its 1-1/8" as it seems all the rest of the big bolts are that size.

BTW that thing is TIGHT, nothing like over a decade of heat and exhaust vapors to weld the threads together. Ive never tried a crowsfoot on anything that tight before. (a friend seemed to think his would be impossible to remove without cutting it)

How bad is that leak? Maybe it doesnt look as bad in this light....

i took my whole upper intake off when i did mine and was able to get the valve cover around it with my intake "flopped" out of the way

I used an adjustable wrench. After is was good and cool I soaked it with PB Blaster. let is sit for a while and it came fly'n right off
