alright i got a engine out of a bronco and put it in my ranger but it wont start ive got the timing set and there is spark and starting fluid doesnt help so i was wondering i would need the ecu out of a bronco and is the firing order the same on both?

All of this doesn't really add up.. Either that, or your engine just doesn't have any compression.

Did you have the distributor out, and if you did, are you positive it is not 180 desgrees off? There is 2 places that the piston is at the top - on the end of exhaust stroke and compression stroke. Easily mixed up.

Wait.. You do mean a Bronco II from the same year and engine, right? Not a full size bronco - obviously that wouldn't work well at all..

yeah a bronco II and i checked the timing with the marks on the cam and crank gear

Then you ARE 180 deg out.

Timing marks on a 2.9L are #1 TDC/exhaust....

Verify against valve positions on #1. At TDC/exhaust, both are slightly open. At TDC/compression, they are both completely closed.
