Can someone tell me if the ecm from an 84 Ranger 2.8 will work in an 88 with the 2.9? Reason I ask is my brother in law's range 2.9 will not run, replaced the pump relay (pump works) and the inertia switch is OK yet the pump does not turn on nor is there spark. Replaced the dist modual with a known good one and nothing, if I jumper the relay it will pump to the rail.

The 2.8 ecm is for an electric POS carb and the 2.9 ecm is for efi.

I wish life could be that simple, but they're entirely different fuel delivery systems. He will need the correct computer - the money spent on it would be worth the time not trying to hack job it, IMO.

I have disowned the the system and leave it to the service garage.
