Duratec with an Extended cab

FWIW

I have an 07 Extended Cab automatic 2.3 in the garage with 4.10's and now that its cold out I am getting about 21mpg. In the summer I was getting 23-24mpg. I am disappointed in it honestly.

I drive at one speed, 75mph, on cruise control, for 32 miles each way everyday to work.

A question to you all. What if I put in some 3.73 gears? It runs almost 3,000 RPM at 75mph. I figure I could knock it down significantly but would I burn more gas getting the truck to up to speed with the taller gears?

You are bellyaching about thoses numbers?????? The revised EPA fuel mileage numbers for your truck are 19/24 and you are definately where you should be. I get 22-24 in 50/50 hwy and city driving.

I sold the truck and bought a Fusion Hybrid in june. Thats how much I bellyached.

That makes no financial sense whatsoever. Between the big loss on the depreciation of the Ranger plus the large price tag of the Fusion Hybrid you pretty much boned yourself big time.
Word of advice: If the EPA sticker says 21/26 expect 23 mpg and if the EPA sticker says 19/24 expect 21-22 mpg.
Just a bit of common sense and deductive reasoning would have prevented you from buying the 07 Ranger in the first place.
If fuel economy is the #1 determining factor in buying something, you should have bought a Focus for $13,500 -$15,000 after all the incentives.

Good lord a Ranger is a truck for God's sake, why would anyone in their right minds expect econobox mileage from a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick and setup to haul and or tow as much as an econobox weights'?

Wow, welcome back! Thought you'd flown the coop for good.

He'll get tired of the hybrid's 35 mpg and buy a Chevy Volt before you know it.:icon_thumby:

The Ranger got bought for schlepping stuff around at work, convenience of the bed and the mileage of an average car and a few months after I bought it we got banned from using personal vehicles for certain work purposes.

I get a new car all the time. Last 3 cars I've owned 2007 Ranger 2008 Fusion 2010 Fusion. I only care about the financial hit to a certain extent. I like new cars.

My other angle is I get paid like $.55 a mile for the things I still can do with my personal car at work. This thing gets 40mpg most of the time. Thats like 60%+ improvement in monetary return on mileage in this thing versus the Ranger.

I didn't fall off the planet, I even visit reasonably regularly, just don't post much anymore. And since I was 'defrocked' as a mod I just don't do much more than see how you guys are doing.
Besides I find I am spending more and more time trying to find better ways to screw around with my bike.

I hear you on the bike. It's killing me that I've had to take a few weeks off while waiting for the new rear tire to come in, then 15 inches of snow, and now just taking too much time getting it installed. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I'll have it back up on the road. Got a few nice Christmas gifts for it, though. Heated jacket, HID headlight, Scala Q2 multiset, and Hippo Hands. Can't wait to get back on the road.
