So I've finally had time to work on this a little more. Ran a new starter wire and new ground (negative battery terminal to motor) as both those wires had bare wire showing close to the exhaust manifold. I put a sleeve around them and zip tied them so they were no where close to the manifold.
Anyway - went to crank and it turned over but wouldn't start. Left the ignition key on and was testing to make sure I had voltage to the coil and before I could even get out there....the negative side of the coil was smoking, so I went to turn the key off. Both the red wire going into the coil and the green coming out were burning up hot. It even cracked the case on the distributor. Anyway, for now I am thinking that some of those wires are now corroded and that was creating the heat. I'll have to get a new coil and run some new wires. If just from what I've mentioned you guys can tell I am missing something obvious....feel free to chime in. As always I appreciate the help I get on here. Thanks!
