So my oil light came on today so i checked it and it was fine. I even added a little just to be on the safe side. Is there a low oil sensor of some sort that could be bad. I already plan on installing an oil pressure gauge. Would this basically take the oil level out of commission?

Thanks

yeah, mine came on all the time on my 92 4.0 explorer motor... you can get one at autozone or anywhere, i just can't remember what its really called right now

was it the check oil light? or oil pressure light?

mine comes on every once in a while, and i know the oil is good. So i just shut it down and boot it up again. The light then goes off.

Yeah that sensor Ford put on these engines is junk. The wire that goes to it can get burned, broke, you name it and turn that light on. Although the one on my 87 is true cause whenever it comes on I KNOW I'm low on oil! It's the low oil level sensor mounted to the driver's side of the oil pan.

Is the oil level sensor the same as the oil pressure. I assume its not but just asking.

What is the sensor called i cant find it online at the part stores.

Well I've never changed mine so this is good info for me as well. It's called the oil pressure switch and if you search on O'Riellys or other parts places you'll see they have several kinds.
