Well here it is guys, its dumb I know, My '03, 4.0L, 4x4 Ranger is my first automatic that I ever owned, I like it but don't know if I Love it yet. Anyway I want to replace the tranny fluid with synthetic but How do I change the fluid and get all of it out for a full fluid change? I was talking to a guy and he said you drop the pan but you can only chang about 60% of the fluid at a time. Well, I dont have a place or tools to rip the thing all the way out to do this whole process he suggested. there has to be another way right? Oh and it has almost 60,000 miles on it.

The reason is because there's a large amount of fluid still trapped in the torque converter. Most transmission shops have a machine that will suck all the fluid out, and you also have the option of tapping and installing a drain plug on the torque converter. Otherwise, yes, you won't get all the fluid out.

do a tranny flush my man. disconnect the return line from the the radiator and use a fitting with a hose were the line went for the old oil to drain. start the truck and oil will start draining keep adding new fluid to the tranny until new oil starts to come out. its that easy.

youre going to need alot of oil. this is what shops do with their machines and they use a much oil as you will. hence its cheaper to do your self
