Hello all, a while ago i did some off-roading and basically my whole hub and lock nuts and all other components were hanging off afterwards making my wheel wobble like all hell so i took it to the shop and he removed everything and cleaned and greased then re-installed. Now i don't know if he put on lock nuts too tight or something or this has nothing to do with it, but my drivers side hub will not unlock now. i cant turn it by hand with the truck on the ground and my buddy said it spins when i pull out.. I know this cannot be good for the front end especially if only one side is locked. I'm wondering if i just need new hubs or if they are installed too tight or incorrectly. Also until i figure it out should i lock the other hub also? a small note also; when i park in my pad outback and i have to turn sharp and climb a little curb, while im doing it i hear a popping noise coming from front end. u-joint? or just because my axle is spinning?

Thanks in advance.

ok i'm pretty sure i found the problem, my hub went bad.. i took it off and the spindle on inside will not spin free when the hub is unlocked. I would of never expected a hub to fail that way but whatever. Im also guessing it blew out the u-joint on that shaft because of it spinning and taking turns and what not. that sounds like the popping noise i'm hearing.

I'm having a similar issue, but opposite. I have an 88 ranger 4x4, and I cannot get the driver side hub to lock. I can turn it all the way to the "LOCK" position, but it won't snap in. Would you have an idea as to why that is?

Lock/unlock problems on a manual hub are almost guaranteed to be something in the hub itself.

You may be able to disassemble the hub and repair it however, though of course there are no guarantees on that.
