driveline whine


There's always some in and out play of the axle shafts. Its just the nature of a c-clip style differential, nothing is there to actually tighten the axles down. 1/4" would be on the high end of that though. Probably worth popping the cover off to have a look...
 
had the chance to work on truck today. ended up replacing both rear bearings and seals. also found pinion shaft seal was bad which we replaced. still have a roar but not as bad. any other suggestions?
 
explained problem to repair shop and they seem to think i have worn ring and pinion. more updates when i get those replaced
 
here wasmy main problem. had to grind part of a tooth on new ring gear toget pin out enough to install c clips. once i got it together its quiet once again
