DRIVE OR OVERDRIVE???

GEAR---DRIVE OR OVERDRIVE??😬🙄
I'VE HAD MY BABY SINCE JAN.2018,
MY EX BLEW THE ENGINE THAT SUMMER
& SEPT. 2020 I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION.
BOTH WERE REBUILDS.
EVERY TIME I GET ABOUT 10MILES FROM MY
HOUSE, MY O/D LIGHT FLASHES.
JUST FOR KICKS I THOUGHT I'D TRY DRIVING
WITH O/D OFF. DAMN MY TRUCK HAS SOME GET UP & GO!!
MY O'REILLY'S GUY TOLD ME I
SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING IN O/D.
SO FOR ALMOST 4YRS I'VE BEEN THE ONE FUCKING UP MY TRUCK BY
PURE IGNORANCE.
😢😥
IS THERE ANY SALVATION FOR MY TRANSMISSION??
SHE RUNS GREAT NOW. I STILL DON'T HAVE A DEFINITE ANSWER.
PLEASE ADVISE!! TY
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR HELP, QUICK REPLIES & FUNNY COMMENTS. TRULY YOU'VE HELPED ME LOTS!! NOW I JUST NEED TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO & GET SOME $$$ TOGETHER.
NOT SURE IF I MENTIONED THIS, BUT BOUGHT *BB* FOR MY BDAY JAN. 2018 FOR $4600. I BELIEVE MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 165,000. SO FAR SINCE MY DUMBF**K OF A X-BF BLEW THE ENGINE THAT SUMMER, I'M AT $15,000 IN REPAIRS. I KNOW I KNOW, WHY DON'T I DUMP HER?? SIMPLY BECAUSE I HAVE ALREADY SPENT THAT MUCH (INVESTED) SHE'S 18YRS OLD & MY DAD SAYS IT'S JUST TIME TO REPLACE OLD WITH NEW.

$15,000 is fine if you can drive for another 5 years, that's only $250/month
Not going to find a better vehicle for $250/month with new engine and trans

Is it better not to have to spend the $15,000..........duh, of course, but like you said, NOW you need to get your "money's worth" out of it

I understand about the money thing. But man lady, you have far more money in that truck than I do in my 98, which I've owned for 21 years. I don't get rid of mine because I've had it that long and can repair most anything that happens to it, except the stupid P0171/174 codes that have been there for many years. I just gave up on ever fixing it, it runs like a well tuned vehicle should. Doesn't seem to care about the codes. I mean, I spent near $1000 on it this year for various things, including having the transmission filter and fluid changed, having as shift kit installed in the trans. having the rear axle seals replaced, along with having 4.10 gears put in the axle and a new throttle body. I don't sweat it. I'm 60, likely don't have a lot of time left above ground, so who cares. I can't take the money with me. LMAO!

Warranty on a $2000 rebuild just depends on the shop. Rick at Ace Transmission in Midwest City OK is a friend. But still, his warranty is a year, no mileage considerations. Since the trans in my Mustang failed within three weeks of him rebuilding it, it wasn't an issue. .

The trans shop I use provides a 2 year / 24,000 mile warranty on a full rebuild, which is around $2000.

Unless you drive a lot of highway miles on a regular basis “overdrive “ isnt going to affect fuel milage much. Id still get it checked out, when I had my 93 4wd V6 I drove a daily 24 mile route to work and back, always tracked milage. just for curiosity sake I drove for 2weeks without using overdrive (it was a manual but same principle applies) I only dropped 1 mpg on my commute by NOT using overdrive. Granted if you have a converter issue (not locking up for example) youd lose more mpg and generate heat , which isnt a good thing. but just from the standpoint alone of using/not using overdrive, you would be alright, engine would just be about 500 rpm’s more at cruising speeds.

Do you know how much money car companies spend to get less than 1 mpg improvement? Unless you're towing or hauling something heavy, use overdrive. If it's hilly and downshifts a lot stick it in drive instead.

I simply prefer driving all three of my Fords OD off. I don't care about one mile per gallon. I don't care how much money Ford paid to get that one mile per gallon. All three of them, are much more enjoyable to drive, below 40 mph, with the OD off. YMMV.
