Picked up a 2001 extended cap with the double doors. The Door Ajar indicator light is always on and the dome light is always on. The doors shut tight and if push them tighter it doesn't fix it. Not sure what's going on. I figured it would be a easy fix but it's not. Anyone have this occur.

The driver's door on mine has a cranky switch - occasionally it'll do what you're describing but a healthy slam stops it. I'm guessing either your switch or wiring is worse off than mine, that's where I'd start looking. Obviously since yours is stuck on it could be either side...

I'll ask the stupid question. It isn't turned on at the dash light dimmer is it?

I know, rediculous question. You'd be suprised how many times an electronics/electrical problem is fixed by flipping a switch or pushing a button.

It wouldn't be the first time that's happened. I've spent a half hour or so going WTF before realizing it was on.

there was a big long thread with everyone saying 'me too" - short answer, lubricate the door lock - the switch is in the lock... have to dig for the thread. apparently a illness of all 3rd gen + (1st and 2nd have a separate short throw pin switch for door ajar/dome)

Funny. Ya after reading the responses I went to check hoping it wasn't the switch. Since I literally just got the truck two weeks ago it would be possible that I didn't check switch. But confirmed it's not the switch turned on. I'll lube the lock and see. Thanks

Only in cold weather mine goes crazy. Need to p/u some of those tiny super magnets and park one on the magnetic door switch wherever that is.....

Hey everyone - hope this helps as I just got a 2010 and the mother******* that sold this truck saying it was in GREAT CONDITION mentioned nothing about this little gem when I picked up the truck 6 hours away from me. Only after getting it home and driving it for a few days did this dome light/door ajar crap expose itself.

I've spent hours looking at every crap video made about taking the power lock latch and module out of the door, read 100 posts about WD-40, etc, but nobody could point to the actual culprit until this video. This person knows how to make a video and diagnose EXACTLY what is going on with these stupid switches in these trucks.

This is the ONLY video I've been able to find that nails the problem of the switch, and the last thing I want to do is spray up my latch and door interior with WD-40. Who the hell fixes a problem that way??? Here's the link to the switch itself (and testing); below that is a link to the actual Motorcraft part (SW-6129) for sale on FeeBay:

that is just a bad design, so glad 2nd gens have short throw pin switches.

If I can find the exact spot where the magnetic sensor is I'd stick a mini super magnet on the door and problem solved. Now where did I stick those??
