What can possibly be in Amsoil Antifreeze for them to make the claim it "stops small and hairline leaks"?
Is there something in Amsoil that's not in any other antifreeze?
Would using this antifreeze gum up my cooling system?

no, it does not seal, yes it will gum up the cooling system.

if you have a leak, seal it properly. i have pulled apart cooling systems with over 1/4 of black goo from "stop leak" all over every single surface. still leaked

I'm surprised you got that "black goo" from Amsoil Antifreeze. I would expect that from an additive like BarsLeak or something like that. Judging from your experience, I guess it's best to stick with a reliable brand like Prestone, to be on the safe side.

What does Amsoil put in their antifreeze to produce that "black goo"?

yeah, just don't buy a "stop leak" expecting it to fix the problem, it causes much more problems than fixing the original leak could ever cost you

I'm not going to add any "stop leak" products like Bars and the sort. I have a small coolant leak that seems to be coming in at one of the cylinders, which is probably the head gasket. With the amount of coolant leaking (about 8 oz every 10 days), I can't justify the money to pull the head. Cheaper to add the water and closely monitor the coolant loss and go from there. I just drained/flushed the cooling system and running right now with plain distilled water. Since colder weather will be approaching, I better get some antifreeze in there pretty soon. In the past I always used Prestone. Recently read about the Amsoil product claiming to self seal minor hairline leaks which may fall into my dilemma. Since I'm going to fill up with antifreeze anyway, I figure the Amsoil would give me that added edge.

It is highly unlikely that a loss of 8 oz a week is an internal coolant leak. Put the coolant back in there and look externally for your leak. Repair the leak and don't use stop leak products.. The really good ones stop up the radiator cores..
WATER is hard to find from a leak as it evaporates quickly and leaves no residue..

ive been an amsoil dealer since march 08 so i may be bias. But i do run amsoil everything in my vehicles. I have used the coolant and it does stop SMALL leaks and i guess could prevent leaks? Not exactly sure on the exact contents that causes this, have never asked amsoil, but i believe when it starts forming around a leak area it hardens.... no it will not gum up your system.

Since you're a dealer, you may have a jug of antifreeze around. Does the labeling on that container list the ingredients?
