Dodged the bullet today....

i got laid off in july worked a couple temp jobs and unemployment run out.. ive sold my street bike 2 trucks and a car to get by till now.. if anyone is hiring im willing to move lol thats how sad its gotten here

I got laid off last November and got re-hired in January. It's a temp job, but I am thankful that I have one right now. They just gave 7 people early retirement yesterday, and I'm thinking another round of that is comming. I hope to god that this economy strengthens because I want to get hired full time.

dad got laid off from ford credit yesterday after 20 some odd years

My dad worked for Otis Elevator for 26 years and got laid off about 2 years ago. He's probably the best machinist/welder I've ever seen in my life.

Now he works for Carlisle making heavy-duty/construction parts.

I got hit tuesday after 25 years of solid employment not counting 10 yrs in the navy.I'm in a field that gets slow every winter but we get by on contracts and a few service calls. We don't have a salesman and it hurts the bottom line.

I don't feel sorry for myself, saw it coming and I am constantly faxing and e-mailing resumes from home, and calling contacts established over the years.I just need the weather to break,I need hot ass weather which is just around the corner.I'm a journeyman in the local and have a unrestricted state contractors licsense.Damn,I loved this company.Keep your chins up guys!

You can't say you blame them either- open a business in this country and you have to deal with the tax office, including unemployment ins, the EPA, IRS, OSHA, dealing with the family medical leave act, health ins costs, etc, etc, etc. They are also forced to hire someone based on RACE but NOT neccesarily the best qualified applicant to try and stay out of court. Then the cost of drug testing, finding someone who will actually show up for work (on time even) and then work when they get there... There is no way in hell I would open a business and paint a target on my back.

Add to this, 52% of the morons who live here elect this porkulus president who just spend a few TRILLION dollars the first few weeks on the job on useless crap trying to "stimulate" the economy, most of it going to government programs that will never die and he isn't through yet. He's going to raise taxes on the "rich" though and make it all better. The "rich" is who owns the company I work for, so I ask- have you ever gotten a job from a poor guy? I'd be gone too. Long gone.

Couldn't have said it better.:icon_thumby:

Yup, I was Involuntarily Terminated - I hope they also fired the HR puke that thought that phrase up. After 31 years of service I got escorted out the door like a criminal.

Dang...that sucks guys.

I'm fortunate to be in the IT field, I don't see my job going anywhere, but, you never know. Every single large insurance company (state farm, farmers, usaa, lib mutual etc) would need to go under before my company does, so we'll see.

Hope. Change.

At least Obama is in the White house now.I won't have to worry about my mortgage or putting gas in the tank.Lol.

it sucks and kinda scary out there, im in security so im half safe, i had to pick up another job just to stay floating 10bucks an hours sucks when you have to work 80 hours a week.

Nobody is safe, unless they have a government job

Not too long ago I was offered a job doing Surveillance and after sleeping on it for a night I decided to take it and started the next day. The only good thing is that as more people get laid off they get desperate and start stealing things which makes store owners want a surveillance system installed. Around here the only people that sit at home without a job are the ones that don't want to work and love to complain. If someone really wants to work then there's always McDonalds or Walmart. Sometimes you have to search hard but there's always something.

Soon they will hire everyone...didn't they just take a 30% share in Citibank?

The school I've been attending has had a remarkable increase in enrollment lately...people are losing their jobs and applying for retraining...and the Ontario government has opened the purse strings to fund a whack of people like me (in their 40s or 50s) that need upgrading to stay employable...

I mentioned this before when I first started the course...I was offered a good job paying almost as much as I was making when I got laid off after ten years with the same employer...

The jobs are out there, not necessarily all high-end jobs, but they are there...
