do i need to change my brake pads?

I took my 1997 Ford Ranger to a local brake shop - where they told me I didn't need new brakes..yet.

Does it look like I need new brake pads?

no, no trouble stopping.

its been 3 years since i've been driving the truck.

and i haven't changed the pads once (they didn't come new either).

just getting a little paranoid.

If it makes you feel better, change them...I drove my Zuki for 3 years (160,000 Km) and only just had to change them out...but by the looks of those you've probably got another year if you don't drive much...
