Hey guys,
Well here it goes. I bougtht an 85 BII for $200 bucks with no distrubuter in it. Well got another from a blown 85 Ranger and I THINK I got set up right. I rotated the engine with a ratchet untill I got the #1 to TDC compression and then the distro dropped right in. Great, got all the wires on the cap, no starty!! Hmmmmm. So I recheck my work and find the wires goofed on the cap. Aha! Not so. Everything seems okay, got fuel and fire but they aren't gettomg together. Yeah, I know I should put a new rotor and cap on it but I want to see if the motor will start.Any suggestions???? Thanks.

You could have it 180 out. Take out the #1 plug, put your finger over the hole while rotating engine. When you feel compression that's TDC #1. The timing marks on the crank show TDC, but you could be on TDC #5 . TDC #1 + 1 full crank rotation = TDC #5.

also check out the tech page or which cylinder is number one and how they are counted.one is on the passenger side, not drivers side like I was originally counting.... I think

Nope, it goes as follows:

3 6
2 5
1 4

Thanks all,
I'm not new to BIIs or fixing autos. Just wondering if there was something I was missing with my first time with the 2.8L motor. Well no worries, she's running now, but a good shock from the plug wires. Well anyway I know the coil is good! Picked up plugs, wires, rotor and cap. Got em installed but ran out of time to play with it anymore today. I'll get the timing perfectly set tomorrow. Thanks again guys.
