How do you disconnect the clutch pedal from the master cylinder rod without breaking the clip?

Pry and pray! They break easily and a new one is $10+(for a $.25 part). If you can see it with a mirror or get your head in right positon you might be able to depress the tabs and slide it out. But it's probably worn anyway.

i just made a tool to pop the rod out of the master. it was much easier to get the master through the firewall with no rod attached

usually only breaks one tab. It appears 3 tabs is enough to hold it in when you pop it back together....least it was for me. I ended up replacing the master though so i didnt get to see how it held up over time

I'm trying to get the pin out also, what exactly am I prying?

This seems to be the most daunting task today....

Is there a picture of what the clip looks like somewhere?

I got it...

Now to wrestle with the top bolts.

Is it easier to drop the tranny down and get them from the bottom?

Assuming you are talking about bell housing bolts right? On my V6 i found it easier to get them by "feel" from the top, but you need a ratchet with a pivoting head. My dad is doing his 4 banger right now and said he got his easy from beneath.

Makes sense. My only pivot ratchet is busted atm....

Any other tips on getting this thing out?
