What is wear and tear like on a clutch converter? The b2 has 14xxx miles, so it probably has over 200 000 miles...
Im trying to figure out what to do if/when my tranny goes on me. Affordability is key, but so is function of the tranny - I dont want to spend any money on a tranny thats just gonna piss me off.
What would be the ideal situation, just rebuild the 2.9 tranny I have, or getting a 4.0 tranny and having it rebuilt with a 2.9 clutch converter? If I took it to a transmission shop and asked for them to rebuild it, would I end up with the weak points on the 2.9 tranny all over again?

Any idea what a new clutch converter would be worth, if you can even get one? I kinda assume that sort of thing you would need to get from a transmission shop?

the torque converter (not converter clutch) is not part of the transmission itself, it's not something you have rebuilt in, it just slips between the transmission and engine.

as I said, not totally fluent in auto trannies... So the torque converter goes between the tranny and engine. Do they typically require maintenance or repair?

So I would be best off getting a 4.0 tranny in good shape, or rebuilt, and bolting it up to my 2.9 torque converter?

What about replacing the torque converter? What are they worth?

If it has had steel ran thru it from tranny failure... chuck it and get a new one.

Otherwise if they work they work, if they don't you replace them. There really isn't much a mere mortal person can do to repair them.
