My credo
Low range in Nova Scotia on YouTube!
I parked boots after a good run which included water (the video is under “video of donkey” ) elsewhere, anyway, shit it off and it wouldn’t start. Ok, cycle the key because it’s sounds out of gas (still 1/4 tank) fires right up and runs for 2-3 seconds then “runs out of gas”. Crank all you want, no go. Cycle the key 3-4 times, hearing the fuel pump build pressure, fires right up… for 2-3 seconds. Did this several times as I added methyl hydrate and wanted to cycle it through the fuel system.
Still no go.
Fuel pump works initially so I know the pump, fuse and relay are all good. What keeps the pump running, It appears the relay is acted on by the computer….
I think I’ll add more gas first, maybe the pick up is plugged or it is low on gas and the pickup isn’t working right now??

Thoughts??

Edit: here is the snow wheeling video, not too much water, not too rough….😒

i would say find what keeps the pump running after the initial prime is burned off.

i cannot help on this because i have no idea what does it. i just have similar experience in bmws i have previously owned and know how their system works and where to go. they run off the crank sensor telling the ecu that the engine is running and it turns on power to the pump. maybe the ranger is the same, i don;t know but someone will come confirm in a bit

Check fuel filter. Get a pressure gauge and check fuel pressure at the rail. Sounds like filter is clogged or pump is failing and not Maintaining enough pressure/ flow to run the engine.

Awesome video!

You could have some shit sucked up into the pump sock. The pump turns on, blocks itself, engine dies, whatevers sucked up to the sock falls...prime then repeat.

Oh and squirt some used motor oil on that control arm bushing, my expedition used to squeak like that it drove me nuts. Squirted it once every few months it shut up.

I face the same issue. I found the solution to be drugs. My butt gets drugged out of bed to start the day. Then my butt gets drugged to work to run the rest of the day.

I've contemplated rollers or leather skid pads.

What a dumbass……. After checking all the wiring diagrams I said heck with it and put 2-3 gallons of gas in it.
Cycled the key and it fired up and runs fine🤬
Gauge is still saying 1-4 tank.

more to come….

that sucks but i geuss its a normal ranger deal. my 98 mazda never read so i just would fill up at 200 miles on the trip meter till i got bored enough to lift he bed and put a float on the arm. who knows where the original one went but after that, it worked like normal
