difference between flex fuel injectors and non flex injectors, color, part #s on them?????

How do i physicaly determine the difference between Flex Fuel Injectors and non Flex on a 98 Ranger and a 2000 ranger, i think i might have installed the injectors from the 00 flex and put them into the 98,it will run like crap one time and the next time it runs fairly good, i think at one time i see that it was running rich,slight black smoke out tailpipe,thanks for any help you guys can give.

Flex Fuel Rangers used 24lb thru 2000, and Flex fuel Rangers also used a Fuel type sensor at that time
Gas Only used 14lb
In 2001 Ford changed to 19lb for both Flex and Gas Only and changed computer software so no fuel type sensor was needed


The computer you use decides what injector size you need, the computer is programmed for that size injector, so it "knows" how much fuel will flow out of each injector if its OPENED for say 100ms with say 60psi pressure(1998 and up)

The computer would correct for injector size but only AFTER engine has warmed up and O2 sensors are working
So you could get RICH running at first start up, smoke
But after the first warm up the computer would start to decrease OPEN TIME of the larger injectors and set RICH Codes, but engine would no longer be running Rich
After next startup the computers Long Term Fuel Trims would correct for the larger injectors

So they Ford made a FLEX Fuel and A Gas model ranger in 2000

Yes, the 3.0l Rangers or Mazda B3000 could be Flex or gas only in 2000
The 8th digit in the VIN will tell you what that vehicle was from factory
V = 3.0l Flex
U = 3.0l gas only

Flex fuel was offered from 1998 to 2003 in Rangers with 3.0l engines

The 4cyl and 4.0l V6 Rangers didn't have Flex Fuel option, just the 3.0l V6 did

The Model T had Ford's first Flex Fuel engine, offered from 1908 to 1927, just FYI

I lurvz mah Flex-Fuel Ranger-rama... whenever I make the mistake of filling up at Costco or Cumberland Farms, I know a half-tank of name-brand E85 will clear out all that water and contamination, and really put some thrust into the higher RPMs...

PS: Does anyone know why Costco and Cumberland Farms mix so much water into their gasoline? Are they ChiCom-owned scum firms?
