im not an expert but in the 80s ford put out a 2.2l and 2.3l diesel engines one made by Toyo Kogo and the other made by Mitsubishi they didnt make alot of them and im sure not many people bought them (i could be wrong about that) theres more info in the tech library

The 1983 Ranger had an available 2.2L Mazda/Perkins diesel. In 1985, a Mitsubishi-built 2.3L turbodiesel replaced the Mazda diesel engine.

If I didn't have too many projects to do right now I'd think about it... but for a currently not running vehicle that's ~4 hours drive away it's not really in the cards... one of the turbo Mitsubishi ones would be cool though... I've been tempted before

I always thought the diesels died in 88....but i coulda sworn i seen a 2nd gen once with a factory diesel for sale years ago on craigslist....it wasnt swapped either cause the cluster said "diesel fuel only"....

Maybe im remembering wrong.

I think they ran the same trannies as the gas rangers....hence a transfer case should be easy to come by
