except for the fact i did that testing on the 20 degree incline coming outta the field where we do the hay :D :D

In that case this shouldn't have even been posted... rock the box man :headbang:

On level ground... 2" clearance on a gooseneck spells disaster at the slightest off camber.

That's the purpose of a gooseneck hitch--it's for rough terrain. A hayfield goes every which way. It's a work hitch. A little fifth-wheel is a camper hitch.

In your situation a box sounds handy, but they look god awful. It's form vs function... Do you want a truck that looks good, or one with more storage? I like the idea of putting boxes along/under a flat bed.

I wasn't knocking the gooseneck, it's what I would once I could afford it. I was more worried about the 2" clearance to the box..... I've seen a 6" gap get turned into a crunched bed when towing through ditches. :bawling:

I like this idea also. Put a box up behind the cab and some under the sides of the flatbed. Since its a dually, you can let the bed come out over the wheels and have plenty of room in front of and behind the wheels for boxes. Flat on top so you won't have to worry about crunching your boxes.

I like this idea...but I would stay with the box if you don't go this route

forgot to add that they have them in 12 foot lengths, but if you fab yours (or mod the one you have) you can add more boxes where you have the room or keep the current boxes you have, and just delete the ones over the wheel wells so you can flatbed it..

problem i have with that is that the current box i have a craftsman box fits perfectly in the front compartment , and yes they look god awful

the 9 foot bed on my truck right now is bad enough , i can't imagine a 12 foot :shok: :shok:

I got lost on the dimensions, I was thinking 14' is what you had...And yeah, they are stupid expensive, I just posted those pics as a reference...You can trim the top of your box down to give you a slightly better looking bed but still have form and functionality...I woulod build one before I buy one of those beds!!

if i went with the flatbed i was looking at putting a Mac Road Box (Tool Box like a Jobsite box that has a swing up , slide in front and has 2 shallow and 2 deep drawers , as wide and deep as a TSC 36" under bed box) on one side and a TSC under Bed box on the other , plus a TSC Diamond plate Transfer Tank/Toolbox combo up top , but then with the price of the box i would have $2200 invested when i can fix my utility box to do the same thing for like $500

I figured you could fab your own sides and storage compartments, but if your going for a budget build, like others have said, ROCK THE BOX :headbang:
