Why is aluminum diamond plate so expensive, I went to lowes today to try to get a piece or 2, and a 1ft by 2ft piece was $37, and a 2ft by 4ft piece was a hundred frekin dollars, but the day before I went to the scrap yard and got bout 1.5 square foot 2 different pieces for $2, they were like brand new just a little piece taken out, what the hell is goin on.

scrap value vs NEW value.. i went to my local scrap yard last week an their was BRAND NEW plate/an angle plate was 4x8 with pieces cut out of it an was 1/4 i was like thats such a WASTE!

Keep in mind you're buying from a retail store too. We've got this awesome place called Pacific Steel here that sells new metal for a fraction of the price you'd pay at Lowes or wherever.

For example. 3 feet of 1x1x1/8 angle is $7 at Menards. 20 feet of the same shit at Pacific is $10. Can you say markup?

Find a metal dealer and support them. Diamond plate is still freakin expensive anywhere though...especially aluminum diamond plate.

Retail stores have a lot of markup on their steel. Your better off going to a scrap yard of to a metal/fabrication/welding/place that deals with bulk material. You get a better price, and they can usually fabricate special pieces too for relatively low costs.
