Detroit diesel 2 stroke won't start

i haven't got around to working on it again. as soon as i do, and find something out i'll let everyone know. I think i'm going to check the blower out first.

If it was locked up and you bumped the starter to break it free, there is a chance the rings are shot and you aren't getting the compression needed for combustion. You may have to do a tear down to check the linings and pistons.

+1.the injectors can be bench tested for proper spray pattern by a properly equipped shop, and rebuilt if needed.you will need a crows foot to pull them, and a manual for setting rocker arm clearance.

as roadkill stated, the rings and liners may be boogered up and diesels fire with heat of compression and proper spray pattern from the injector.

as hahns b2 stated, you have to remove the valve cover, bleed air at each injector while cranking it over.this puts fuel in the oil,so change the oil soon after so you don't have a crankcase explosion.

and as others have stated, have something sturdy on hand to kill air to the motor in case of run away.

while it turns over i can tell it has good compression (just has the exhaust sound and when it fires the whole thing shakes pretty good) i got to working on it again and the blower seems to work (it moves) and it appears to be good, visually. So i took the valve cover off and cylinder 2 had the intake valve stuck open, i got that fixed and that rod mentioned early for the injectors seems to be stuck. I took the pin out that connects that rod to a smaller rod that goes down into the motor and i can't move the injector rod by hand. How much is that supposed to move and is there anything in particular that goes wrong with it? Visually everything else looks good.

sorry,i haven't had a 53 series valve cover off since 1976 and i just don't remember.the manual sure would be nice if you can get your hands on one, maybe e-bay.

wow that is cheap. after i got the one valve freed up i tried to start it and it tried more than before, then i noticed the number 1 cylinder intake is also stuck open, only this one is stuck very solid. i guess the rocker was down when i looked it at before. i sprayed it with some "special" stuff but it's hard telling if i can get it free too.

yeah, it's pretty weird. Each cylinder has 1 intake and 4 exhaust.

Detroits do not have intake valves.

Detroits do not have high pressure fuel lines.

Detroit injectors are not "pop" tested.

Detroits do not have crankcase exposions from fuel in the oil.

Go find a mechanic who is familiar with these engines and have him look at it. You do not know what you're getting into and you're starting to get a lot of bad advice on here. These engines aren't hard to work on, but you do need to know what you're doing or you can destroy one in a hurry.

Boat mechanics are your best bet these days. A few outdoor equipment repair shops might have experience, but it's less likely. Most heavy truck shops would be able to fix it, it's just a matter of if they're willing.

ok i was wrong, what i thought was an intake valve was the injector. it has a push rod, rocker arm and a spring so i just assumed it was the intake valve. But anyway it was stuck down so i took the injector out and took every little part on it apart and cleaned everything. Got it back together with everything moving correctly and put it back in. It took awhile to get it to start but she runs, and runs great. But the air pump on it acts like it puts to much load on the motor causing it to shut the engine down and all the air built up comes out. So, at least it runs. and i did have my block of wood close by incase it would "run a way" thanks again for the help.
