Dang coyotes getting into everything.

You're absolutely right. If you don't care that they're more capable, then it -doesn't- matter.

Some of us do care, though.

How is it more capable? So you can drive 20 over the limit? Tailgate and text? Explain....

Seems that if they are both capable of doing equal things then they are equally capable. But whatever you have to tell yourself to feel better about your 700/mo payment and wifi hotspot.

Guess in your world 10 inch touch screens and air conditioned seats make a truck capable.(y)

If we both climb the hill at 55-60 does it matter? Id rather have a big lazy bigblock popping away at 2500rpm then something soundinh like its gonna come apart at 5k.

Biggest difference is gas. My engine will always be in the right part of the power band and the big block will be getting 3mpg. I get 10 mpg fully loaded doing 70mph

I averaged 8 toteing my 7000lb sail of a camper at 65 (as fast as you really wanna go with that).

But i will give you that one. They get thirsty quick above 70.

We borrowed my FIL's 13 coyote F-150 for a week while my wife was having recalls done on her car and felt during normal driving it was poochy compared to my 5.4. Lots more power passing on the interstate -(which I rarely do) but every stopsign/light was a crushing disappointment.

He only has 30lb ft on me and it was painfully obvious it was 2000rpm higher.

Back up three times and punt on my 02's replacement... leaning V10 F-250 if they are not all junk by the time the used market settles down.

Ive read somewhere the reason everything is biased toward midrange/upper rpm power is something to do with emissions. Eaiser to control combustion or something.

Even small engines are that way nowadays. You need a 26hp twin to do the same thing an old K series single 14 would do

Go watch some videos. Every newer gas truck ive seen towing has to drop 3 gears and scream 45-5000 on even the slightest hill.

Just speaking from my own observations

I don’t need to watch any videos... I’ve owned/still own both the new and the old ones.
My ‘20 F150 3.5L Ecoboost will out tow my ‘79 F350 all day long... and it will get better gas mileage doing it. It’s got more power, bigger brakes, and like 42 gears. Climbing the mountains in PA (going to the 2021 Ranger Round Up) I would drop a gear and just keep cruising at max 3k rpm.... hell, I had the cruise control on.
Yes, I could probably overload the shit out the F350, drive it down a 35mph road, and claim “It tows more better than that new-fangled contraption”. But the truth is, I’m not towing locally. My normal trip when I hook up my trailer is about 180 miles each way... 45 mph on the freeway isn’t going to happen.

But the 350 would carry the same load. And more. Just not as fast. Thats not capability, thats convenience

It's ironic when you consider how much time you've spent over the years dismissing other RBV engines because of their perceived lack of performance. Now when it's newer equipment with far greater performance, you move the goalposts to "thats not capability, thats convenience".

It’s CAPABLE of doing it, just faster. Thats both capability and convenience.

I don’t need to argue with you. I own them both right now, I’ve actually owned a bunch of both old Ford trucks and brand new Ford trucks. I know what they can do. Your going by videos, other people’s experiences, and your unwillingness to accept that new technology exists and has improved in the past 50 years.

This is all a moot point.

As we will soon all be driving around with 300s and a three speed column shifter soon.

I have contacted MADD to lobby on my behalf, telling them that this will increase public safety 10 fold because it's a lot harder to drink a beer while shifting a column shifter.

Also cut down on texting.

Dont argue then. Everyone gets so bent out of shape whenever i point out the fact these new trucks arnt as high and mighty as the ads on TV make them look.

You do your thing, ill do mine.

That's rich.

You've spent twenty years insisting that everyone else was doing it wrong. So no, you don't get to tell us to 'do your thing' suddenly as if you've -ever- done anything of the sort.

95% of the time i state an opinion and then you guys get all butthurt about it and i fire back. If you dont like what i post move on.

Most of everything i "argue" about comes down to a matter of opinion anyways. Im an opinionated SOB.

I get really irritated (not just here, but in real life) when people dismiss anything old as junk. I also acknowledge that the newer trucks can do things faster then the older trucks could...but thats where their "superiority" ends.

You or sno or whoever likes your ipad on wheels and beer can body then be my guest, but i will not stand by idle and let what i feel is overstated (as in, the new shit being so much better) cruise on by.

My whole point is the older trucks (late 70s+) will haul, or pull, anything a comperable new truck will.(HD diesels being the sole exception) Thats the definition of capability. Abilty to do the task at hand. Ill will 100% gurantee there is not one friggin thing a comparable gas power newer F250 can do that my 97 cant. Or hell even my 77. If i get where im going 10 or 15 minutes later then the other guy then who friggin cares?

It cracks me up that you think they are equal. My truck is rated to 17k. A Cummins is more like 20k. It blows even my 06 F250 away when pulling a load. It's a night and day difference in how much harder these things pull. It's ok to prefer your 97 but you talk a lot of shit about how useless the new stuff is
