Dana 35 spindle nut tool

Weird thing. I am putting my 1995 Ranger front end back together and the tool I have always used (Performance Tool W1269) doesn't fit the inner adjustment nut. So I miked it, and instead of being 2.25", it is 2.45". I guess I'm going to have to buy a tool with just the prongs. Anyone know anything about this? Is this something specific to later TTB Rangers?

Might be answering my own question here. Someone on Amazon had the same problem with a Dorman aftermarket kit. Seems like though their catalog lists it as 2.25", they aren't making them that diameter. Maybe.

I don't know what to tell you Will. I have one of the pronged sockets from NAPA and it fits my 87, 88, and 95 axles.

I ran into that on my '94 and a bud's '93 axle. The W1269 socket still fits the outer locknut, which is really all that's important (the inner nut is easy enough to turn with your fingers, though if seating the bearings after packing them I'll have to tap it tight with a punch or screwdriver).

D44 nuts OTOH, I've always found both to be the same size, inner & outer.

I've only had older axles so I guess that's why I've never encountered it. Maybe it was an engineering change. But you're right, the important thing is that the outer nut still fits the good type socket so you can easily beef on it.
