some of the spindle nut kits I've seen have different gear ratios listed. What does the ratio have to do with the spindle nut, aren't they all the same? I'm converting to manual hubs.

Gear ratio is completely irrelevant, all D35 spindle nuts are the same (as is the D28/35 hybrid). The difference is between '83-'90 axles, and '90½-'97 axles.

And the TTB d44 spindle nuts are same as the 90+ axles aswell.

It's actually due to confusion generated by stupidity.

'93-97 Rangers could come with what we refer to as the
hybred diff

However DANA refers to that differential as simply "dana 28"

SOME parts suppliers ASSume that the later Dana 28 ('93-97) is the
same in all particulars to the '83-90 Dana 28 axle and that is simply WRONG.

so you'll run into parts confusion when buying any components for
the axle, brakes or related component pieces on any vehicle that COULD
have come with the '93-97 Dana28.
