anyone ever have the front four wheel drive completley rebuilt??...all seals and bearings??...I'm just wondering where I could take it and not spend a fortune...I can do it myself but it would be time consuming and time is something I just dont have

I wouldn't think the carrier bearings would be bad(unless they had rust on them)

You could most likely replace all the seals, fluid, etc yourself, esp with a chilton manual, and the TRS.

There is already a write up on spindle bearings in the tech library.

Any special tools you'd need could probably be had by using the auto stores "loan a tool" service.

I'm pretty sure its more then just seals....when the front end is engaged i get a hell of a noise from the ring and pinion so i'm pretty sure the carrier bearings are shot...if I reach under the truck and grab either axle as it enters the pumpkin they wobble alot...the whole front end is shot

I think I would pay that to avoid the headache...plus you'll have to add the cost of a new ring and pinion.....the TTB set-up is gotta come apart...I have already replaced a bunch of rotted out crap under that truck....all the leaf spring brackets!!! fighting the rust was the biggest bitch....even the bushing bolts were frozen to inside of the sleeve....I thought only imports rotted like that.....lol

Sounds like you just need to get a J-yard chunk.

A new Ring and Pinion would be hellova expensive!

You would be looking at another $230 for the R&P, if yours is really bad.

You're right. He could find one in a JY and be in the same boat he is now. But at least if the JY one is bad he could take it back for another or get his money back.

It is possible to look at the pig before you buy it and make sure its not bad. Its not like your required to buy what they have whether its defective or not.

i have a set of 3.27 for one if you need them . i can also fix it, but im in indiana

I would never spend the $$$ To rebuild unless you are dropping in new gears and maybe a locker. Just go to the local wrecking yard and buy a new TTB arm/pig. Pull it apart and inspect/clean it, maybe stick some new axle seals in it and new u-joints and bolt that sucker in there. Just make sure you get the same gear ratio. That would be a lot less expensive and less labor intensive. I just sold a spare for $100. They can be had.
