Damn you DMV!

i've been pulled over for the ball obstucting my plate like 3 or 4 times. Obviously just a reason for them to hassle me since i've never been wrote up for it. so I decided to turn the ball upside-down and keep a wrench on hand. save the hassle :D

bitching about a ball on the bumper is just asking for someone to leave one loose and lose a trailer...dumbasses

No offense here, but you really do swear too much. It's ok in most instances but when it's just plain useless and is only there to sound tough, it's over use.

Seriously? Almost all trucks are like that. I'd leave it and waste as much of their time as possible.

my front plate has a hole in it, and the back license plate is trimmed slightly to fit around my receiver tube but its only about 1/8" on the bottom edge. I have never heard of anyone around here getting a ticket for a trailer ball. Bored cops?

it is a viable reason to ticket you with, or at least call in the plate and check your record. chances are theyve got noting better to do than mees with petty crap like that, you would think they'd have a field day in the winter when snow piles up on the step bumper and blocks the plate entirely. my front plate is kind of blocked by the grille guard, never been hassled for it, but technically they could if they wanted to.

I've got a ball on my bumper too and have never had a problem from any cops behind me, even with my broken tail light lens. I left it on after putting my hitch on so I had something to hook the come-a-long to so I could winch cars onto my tow-dolly.

here in AZ we only have rear plates. DPS never said anything to me when i had no bumper on the front of my diesel back when i was building the bumper nor when i drove the ranger to work there with no front bumper. Im pretty sure non-commercial here is not required, that or the officers i work with just never said anything. Ill look it up though in one of their law books.

As for the license plate frames, we are required to lose them too. i have heard of a few people that have gotten pulled over for it and get a ticket, those were phoenix DPS or city cops. i had to take every one off the cop cars so they didnt have one either, the officers i work with could give two shits lol.

i always pull dealer licence plate frames, they can advertise elsewhere! ive also removed any dealer "sticker" from the rear of vehicles, some (like ricart) are bigger than the car emblems!

I modified the dealer sticker on my one car. It used to say Lochmandy Motors with the L in fancy cursive writing. Made that thing read Po man Motors when I was done ;)

A little off topic but anyways....
When my mom got her '05 Ford Freestyle, it didnt have a front licence bracket and the lady at the DMV got mad at us because we only wanted to buy 1 plate, for the rear. Same story for my dad's '00 Dodge Dakota. Turns out it is illegal to drive with 1 license plate on the vehicle (or something like that). Neither of them have ever been stopped for that reason.

Here's another stupid law. I saw on the show "Speeders" that a guy got pulled over for having a hitch ball mounted on his bumper. The cop told him that the hitch ball obstructed view of the license plate. I can't remember what state it was in. I have been driving my truck for almost a year with my hitch ball in the same spot and have been followed by cops many times....never been pulled over.

Someone ever had the same problem?

Not for a hitch ball, But here in alberta they will give you a good morning ticket for $250.00 for snow covering your plate, same for having snow covering any glass on your truck/car and u must have front and back bumpers.
