damn shame

some junkyards won't sell a vehicle because it's worth way more to them in pieces than as a whole. A junkyard near me routinely buys vehicles for 100-150 and will then sell the engine for 350, trans for 350, axles for 250, etc... see what I'm getting at?

yeah we called the guy and asked about the engine and transmission and said he wanted 700 for both

An article in the local rag had tow truck operators pick up cars off the street taking them to a junkyard and placing a photocoppied title in a little box and getting paid for it. Who would suspect a tow truck stealing a car. Even the cops generally don't question them.

Well, I was going to suggest buying the body in one visit and then going back and buying the rolling chasis...but if the state laws prohibit that...it's a shame...

But I'd see if you can at least buy the body in one piece...just need a flatbed and forklift at both ends...I'd do that with my Ranger cab in a heartbeat...if I could find a BII 4x4 that needs cab work I'd swap on my extended cab...

Just a thought...

Do they have a fence up? Do you have bolt cutters? And do you need an alibi? I would be happy to help liberation of that from its unworthy owner.

Bastards. There was a cherry BII that same vintage for sale here locally for like $800 totally rust free and running. If I see it again I'll let you know...

Also, most won't take it unless you remove the gas tank.:)shady

It may have changed since they are now under new management, but that's where the guys at the local yard used to get gas for their own vehicles... :icon_rofl:

It is federal law, A junk yard cannot Legally buy a vehicle without a title. If the yard has a towing company, they can put it in an impound area and apply for title.
Any junk yard has to have a used car dealer licence to sell bodies, legally.
Many yards buy cars without title but, only until they get caught.
