daily doubler build

Use the copper BB's, I didn't have a whole lot of luck with the airsoft bb's (but of course the tires were beat to ever living hell, cut and 21 years old  )

I had 2500 air soft bb's a wheel and while it helped it was still rough above 55mph.

I ran air soft bb's in my 39.5 and 37s and neither worked. I still had death wobble in both. I had to do the dynamic balancing on the 37s and the DW stopped when I installed they hydro for the 39s.

Truck is looking awesome!! has been along time since I've read your thread.

Hoping you get to do the UA

In the mean time, you really should bring it out to SMORR May 4,5,6th Incredible park. Shouldnt be to to far from you. Edit I mapquested it at around 6 hours to Seymour. Should be a heck of a good time, supposed to have Petersons or some magazine there doing an article on the meet.

I wouldn't think airsoft bb's would be dense enough to work, but I dunno.

b2guy - I'll keep it in mind. To be honest, I don't see me making it though. I'm planning on hitting the badlands this coming weekend though.

Still workin on the sliders. I went ahead and fully welded the reinforcement strap. Plugged and ground the rosette welds. I'll knock the high spots off of the welds and the bottoms will be smooth as butter:

This is the resulting heat pull. The slider on top was used as my straight edge.

Did some thermal upsetting.

And this is the result.

That sucker is flat. Within 1/16" anywhere along its length. I wasn't aware of thermal straightening until yesterday. I read up on it and implemented the process. It works awesome. The temp stays below the lower critical temp so there's no change to the mechanical or chemical properties of the steel. I was truly impressed with the outcome.

I'll weld the strap on the other slider, as well as straighten it, tomorrow.

everytime you post something about the sliders, it makes me wanna redo my sliders more and more...

and b2guy has it right. SMORR is AWESOME.
great bathrooms. lol.. they owners traveled a lot of parks and their number one complaint was always the bathrooms/showers... so when he built SMORR, it got a 5 star bathroom(for camping places...)

They're a lot of work. I've got way too many hours into these as it is. haha. I've learned a lot though, and it'll be nice when they're done.

i'll just send you my measurements... let you go for it. :icon_rofl:

Haha, if I ever DO make a pair for anyone, I think I'll specify that there will be NO skinning involved. Takes way too long to weld, and too long to make straight again. They warped a lot, and I made sure to skip around, only weld ~2" at a time, etc. I don't see how guys can reinforce XJ unibodies without totally warping the shit out of them.

I guess you have a little more control with a mig? I'm burning this .125" strap to .125" thick rectangle with an 1/8" rod at 105amps. Maybe that's too hot, I dunno.

That seems kinda hot. I have the Lincoln AC/DC welder and i usually set it around 80-85 amps. But i use the 6013 rods.

My settings are 75-90-105-120-etc. If I drop down to 90, the weld won't penetrate as well and lay in like I want. Lots of grinding involved. Maybe I'm just a shitty welder. haha. I'll weld up the other today at 105 and thermal straighten it as well. It'll be good.

Do you have a link or name of book for the heat straightening?
Thanks,

Richard

I'll be down ther for this (Saturday Only) wandering the park with some Jeep folk. Should be a good time.

Sliders are looking Nice Bray!

I did the airsoft BBs in my 38s on my F250 and it drives great at highway speeds untill you hit an expansion strip or a bump then the BBs get thrown around and the truck shakes for about 100yds then it goes away. I tried them in my Ranger (235s) and it shakes terrible above 40 mph. Drives just like it did when I didn't have tires ballanced at all.
