D35 locker w/ c-clip...

I was lookin around, and saw something I would'be loved to have when I had a d35. So this might be useful to somebody....

On Aussie Locker's website they show a locker for the d35 ttb, and in the pic it looks to be machined on one side for a c-clip.

Although the clip eliminator mod was easy (if you have a welder), finding the right size spring for me was a PITA, back when i welded up my old diff.

I didn't weld a ring on my axle for the clip eliminator, so far so good. I have NO FRIGGIN CLUE what the spring I got was out of as I found it on the ground at the junk yard while wandering around, was PERFECT, slid it in the boot, hose clamp on the boot in it's bump and clamped the other end, good to go...
 
I didn't do the c clip eliminator on mine. here is a good pic of the cut out in the locker.

I did have to grind a little on the clip itself to get it to fit in there though.

I don't know why you wouldn't. Why disassemble the front end to replace a shaft? Not to mention trying to get the clip out of the locker..
 
Yeah, the c-clip eliminator makes a lot of sense.. And I think I've seen someone use a hose clamp on the shaft instead of a weld bead.
 
Welding on the shaft is a really bad idea. Hose clamps around the ends of the boot are way more than plenty sufficient to hold the spring in place.
 
I think for the first time ever, I'm gunna have to disagree with you. I never had and never heard of an issue involving a weld to hold the spring in.
 
it might not be a serious issue, but his main point is it isn't necessary... he is right though, welding on the shaft will screw with the temper. Seriously, the spring is only pushing with about 5-10lb of force tops, with a couple #6 narrow clamps put together (puts the screws across from each other to balance it out) and the small part of the boot at the bump in the shaft there's pretty much no chance of the boot pushing off.
