i have a 83 ranger that i swapped a d35 into out of a 93 ranger with a 3.0. i was wondering if those hybrid axles came in the 93. if so are they much weaker than a true d35?
thanks

Yes they were around in 93'

Yes they might possibly be in a 3.0 truck. They are very hit and miss in the 3.0. Much more common in a 2.3 4x4.

Best way to tell is whether or not the diff has ribs or is smooth.

The main draw back to the hybrid is replacement parts and the tiny ring and pinion.

As for better, worse......big improvement over D28, littlle less than a true D35.

That means you got the true d35 is the center chunk is ribbed.

as an additional check pull the fill plug, look inside and tell us what you see...

On a "Hybred" pulling the fill plug gives you a view of an aluminum bearing cap.

On a "True" D35 you get to see the carrier.
