D28 TO 35 swap

Found and explorer with 4:11 limited, gonna buy what I need to convert it all. What all do I need for the front? Just unbolt from the frame? Tierods? anything else?

It bolts right it, steering is the same. Only thing you need to convert is the flange on the front driveshaft. I even think the radius arms are the same but i'd grab them anyways in the event you ever wanna make your own longer set

I was gonna say... I havent seen any pre-95 explorers with 4.10's... Only 95 and up.

Look for a 90-92 ranger 2.3 4x4 or 2.9 4x4 supercab, chances are good it could have 4.10's...

be weary though 4cyl trucks usually rock hybrids in that year span

No, the hybrid did not appear until '93.

You will have to shorten your existing front driveshaft about an inch and a half or just use the driveshaft from the donor as long as it has the same length tranny as yours. Also keep your radius arms, the newer ones from the D35 will work but the lower shock mounts on a stud that is prone to breaking under hard abuse. Fixable but your lower shock moun ts are stronger from the get go.

I wouldnt worry about swapping radius arms. That's a tedious job getting the upper stud and lower bolt out of the beams. Broncograveyard does sell the stud new though.
