Cybertruck Reveal

Your all wrong. Its 99.

I graduated high school in '81. That time period was an automotive wasteland. Things began to improve a lot a few years later, but '81 was about as low as it got.

A wasteland!? The delorean came out in 1981!!!!

It took Elon almost 40 years to turn one into a truck. Shoulda made the blue one, IMO.

Wanna have fun, take the phone away from someone under 30 and ask them what 9 x 9 is...
Or ask them to ride a 2wheel pedal bike.

I never though I would meet people over 5-6 years old that could not ride a bicycle.

This thread sucks! There is no worse debate than "Elon fanboi" vs "Vehicle tech peaked in 1985" guy. Both camps are super annoying.

Blah blah blah words

I still think its a joke.

I want Grumpaw's 1hp Mustang. That's a car that makes sense to me.

I'll take this instead.
No electric bill or high gas prices. Doesn't look like a bulletproof doorstop, looks strong and smart.

And she can handle more power than this one.

Too good to pass up! Caption was why own a car when you can take Tesla's Cyber Bus?

1985.... how much have you guys been drinkin' tonight?

Take 10 years off of that. I like my junk powered by big ol happy healthy shadetree friendly fuel-slobberin CARBS not that first-gen computer controlled "feedback" crap. We're just about two decades into the 21st century and you're telling me you guys prefer using computers built 35 years ago? Every car I've had except for the old Explorer & Mazda have needed new computers. The ones on my desk barely last 5-7 years before giving up the magic smoke and you want me to get half a century out of one in a dirty, dusty, oil soaked engine bay?

Only points '85 gets regard the first quality pump-free cats, and yes, I do run cats even with carbs for the sake of everyone around me. 35 years of advancement has made the things a bit more trustworthy and a bit finicky, all well and good in the age of the cell phone & tow truck.

Someone mentioned ‘85 and I joined in because I have an ‘85 to be funny.

I would take a ‘85 over a ‘70’s Courier any day if you wanna play that game.

New enough to have some frills, not complicated enough that you can’t delete or add them yourself and good enough bones to be a blank canvas for just about any powertrain.

I won’t seriously say it is the best but a first gen is better than a lot of things on four wheels. I have had a lot of fun with mine,

Wanna have fun, take the phone away from someone under 30 and ask them what 9 x 9 is...

What does a brownie pan have to do with anything?

These guys "hacked" the jeep by using a default password for the wifi. I wouldn't be mad at someone "breaking" into my house if I left the key in the door.

However, I do understand why this scares people. I work in IT and know all of this stuff very well. The cars and electronics need to be designed from ground up with security in mind. Most automakers are just adding the features for cool ness and could care less if it is safe or secure.

Just saw this. And I'm annoyed. The following is not polite. Sorry mods.

Also I'm ranting a bit. Sorry to all that read this. This post sucks.

I'll keep my manual transmissions at the very least.

To those that argue for tesla and EVs, just keep in mind that it's hard to put a vehicle into runaway acceleration with a clutch pedal.

More tech isn't always better. EVs aren't always good.

And sorry, I don't think they are "the future."

Not at least everyone like me is dead.

I will never trust a machine. Ever. Period. Full stop. I don't care if it's a tesla or a 1934 Farmall. You don't trust machines. They can all kill you if you decide to trust them.

I do not trust my 1988 Ranger. I do not trust my 2013 Challenger. I do not trust my 1953 Coronet. My 2011 F350 is evidence enough as to why I do not trust automatic transmissions (it's new trick is randomly slipping at intersections halfway through them, but just ask Shults Ford, "nothin wrong with it!").

They can all kill the crap out of you.

So why drive something that somwone can f*ck with while you're driving? It's bad enough to wonder if a mouse chewed a wire and your shits going to burn down after winter storage. Why invite more potential problems? Why cram more wiring in? WHY NOT USE RODENT PROOF HARNESS WRAP THATS BEEN AVAILABLE FOR 50 F*CKING YEARS?

From my point of view, I hate the increasing tech in vehicles. I'm already pissed the **** off that I can't buy a manual in a new vehicle. Currently looking for a 78-79 four door as a new company truck BECAUSE IM SICK OF ALL THE ****ING TECH IN VEHICLES. This 2011 is going straight to the ****ing crusher so it doesn't kill someone as soon as I find the right truck to replace it with.

Give me a clutch pedal and a whatever speed. I don't care. I want a way I can shut the f*cking thing off. I don't want to wind up like this:

"There's no brakes. There's no brakes"

That's a family of four dying at the end. They died over tech. Sorry, but you can quote all the sh*t you want about the safety of newer vehicles and how older ones are dangerous. I don't care. Truly. I don't care. With an older one I have agency, with an EV, I'm at the machine's mercy.

Give me a way to kill the machine. That's what I need.

Not want.

Need.

I'm not living in a world where I have to mount a 20mm to my center console because Detroit won't put a f*cking clutch in a vehicle, or an effective way to kill it. EVs only? Cool. I blast for a living. I'll rig a deadmans brake. Will it be safe or legal? **** no. Will I do it anyways? **** yes.

Agency is what is paramount to me. Not fuel economy or torque. If driving around with a driveline wrapped in det cord is the only way to retain agency, then so be it, my vibrator wagon will be equipped with an aftermarket exploding driveline.

Go ahead, make 2.9 jokes about exploding drivelines. Not reading any follow ups to this post. Save 'em for when I'm in a better mood in other threads.

Otherwise, if there's no way to ultimately kill the machine, I won't drive it or ride in it. Sorry. No amount of arguing will change that either.

Safety is a choice. Choices require agency. EVs eliminate that choice. So do electric throttle bodies and computer controlled brake systems. Hence manual transmissions. Gives me an opportunity to let a runaway engine explode when it redlines without a load, and find something soft to hit/slam into in the meantime.

Some basic white bitch in a Kia will kill me when she t-bones my 1988 because she was texting. Your tesla will kill you when it goes into thermal runaway, or when a software update fails, or when the Chinese... Or when.... Or when.....

This is moot. I'm unsubscribing from the thread. This is a stupid debate. Manuals are dead, and I'm going to have to diy my own vehicles from now on because of pieces of sh*t like this tesla abomination.

Focus groups and the EPA determine vehicle tech, not me b*tching on a forum. So I'll just do what I've always done, waste massive amounts of my life on building what I want instead of buying something that I don't.

i will say the first gens are the best......for little trucks.

79's are best overall......

pj.....i drove quite a few of my trucks and eagles with no clutch pedal.....via blown hydraulics...

but easy to bump out of gear if need be....till the pos 145 shifter breaks...

Sometimes simplicity is better than a technical wonder. I do like a lot of the new features that are available now but my dream truck is still an old Forestry Service Crew Cab 4X4. Ford made them with the Highboys.

Will it drink gas like no tomorrow? Yep. Will it be as dependable as the Millennium Falcon? Probably. I would still love to have one none the less.
