CVT

Thanks for all the information

Is the eCVT in the new maverick any good? Or is it just an other garbage transmission? Can I get 200,000 miles out of it?

Snapper has used this system on their lawnmowers since the 60's.

Most of the walk-behind two stage snowblowers use it too I believe.

The plant I used to work at had two old coal fired Stirling steam boilers that used line shafts for the stoker. The control of the grate speed was done with a Reeves drive, which was basically a manual CVT. You adjusted a jackscrew that moved the cones and shifted the belt up or down the drive pulley.

Ewwwww that's what their putting in the Maverick? I thought it was getting the normal 10 speed auto.

Aren't most hybrids running a CVT?

I don't friggin know how a hybrid works. It's got a normal old 2.5 duratec motor in it so I figured it had a normal transmission in it too and they just shuved an electric motor in somewhere?

Clarification after a little digging...
The smaller engine used in the hybrid setup gets the CVT and a front wheel drive only config.
The 2.0 comes with all AWD Mavericks and gets an 8 speed auto unit.

The bigger engine is the hybrid. The 2.5 duratec is used for the hybrid and is only offered in front wheel drive. The 2.0 Ecoboost is offered in AWD but not as a hybrid.

And to clarify he said the hybrid is using a ECTV. Totally different piece of crap than CVT.

Good catch. For some reason I mixed in the three cylinder bronco sport engine when reading and thought that was the hybrid motor.

The main thing that drew me to the Maverick hybrid was the use of the 2.5 duratec which is a tried and true reliable motor I know how to work on. But now I'm leery if it's got some crazy weird untested ECTV transmission. May wait a year to see how many fail first...

Ford has been using that ECVT since 2013.

I'll fight a Toyota...

I think Toyota and Ford both worked together on the eCVT, same as Ford and GM worked together on the 10-speed
eCVT has been in use longer than the 10-speed, just FYI
