I have an 86 ranger 2.9 4x4. With the a4ld.
But I want the the 97 4.0 engine And tranny in my truck.
Will it work?

you will have to up grade to OBD2 system..it can be done.it will be long and hard but can be done

Man, the title said curious and then you were talking about two trucks so then you were bi-curious and then to top it all off, you threw in tranny. Then i read stegomon was all like "long and hard".....I'm confused; I gotta go change the oil in my truck or something.

Post #3 notwithstanding, I think it might be easier and maybe even cheaper in the long run to sell your 86 and go buy a 97.......

Lol sorry for the misinterpretations. I know I'd need to update all the electronics... I just like the body style. It's kinda like a baby f series. My truck has 227k miles on it, so it'd be fun (kinda?) to do. But again.... Long and hard.

find you a 93ish 4.0 set up... easier swap.

Oh ok... Is that still obd1? I think so... Well along with that, would a 97 or newer trans bolt on? I want the 5 speed auto. XD
