cummins 4BT ranger

first of all nice ass truck! but is it rly a 2002? because a 2002 had opening rear doors, that has no body line under the door by the rocker panel. is the cab from a 93 ta 97?

its ok but somehow i want to see a 24 or 12v cummins in a ranger. but then you would have to seriously cut out the firewall and do extensive modification and you probally wouldnt have leg room

I did the measurements once, a 5.9L 6BT from the first year 24v (don't recall) will fit in a Gen1 Explorer. you have to move the radiator to the other side of the core support and use an pusher type E-Fan.... this will give you 1/2" clearance between the block and the radiator, you would also need a cowl inducted hood and a 3" body lift, but there is plenty of room for everything else........ you would need alot of frame bracing to keep from wringing the frame out like a rag....... you would have aboyt an 8000 pound explrer by the time you were done which is why the engine sat on my shop floor for 2 years before somebody bought it.

I believe the four doors were an option. My uncles '08 still has two doors, so I am assuming its still an option.

Doh i totally forgot all about that truck . i hadnt check back up on the build thread in a while good to see he got it done but now i want to see a 4x4 5.9 cummins

So the black smoke in the vid of the first one is too much fuel input. Its just a bad tune. But with diesels it also means ALOT of power. Diesels run wideopen airflow all the time. They regulate fuel the way we regulate air. The more fuel you dump in the more power you get. The black smoke reflects that. It doesnt mean its not running right. It means it was tuned based on the old principals of diesels. Newer diesels can have that tuned out with a bigger turbo and better electronics. Especially with common rail injection. Over all its a nice truck even though it dont necessarily fit our styles. Anyone know of anything like that in a gen2. I have the 92 short bed with 2.3 that I would love to see a diesel in.

its mentioned on page one of this post and in the videos comments that the black smoke is due to a blown CAC hose, allowing the boost pressure to escape and causing the extremely rich condition creating the smoke.

more fuel in means more power to a point. diesels arent impervious to running rich. black smoke means you have more fuel than your engine can burn, thus its spitting partially burnt hydrocarbons into the air (black smoke). a properly tuned diesel will still make its peak power while barely wasting any of the fuel in the form of smoke.

but some guys "need" that black smoke to assert their masculinity :icon_thumby:

Yeah I read the whole post and saw where it was mentioned. I was just trying to be informative. Never said they were impervious either. Like any engine, eventually the power starts to drop off. But the older diesels were tuned way rich for more power. Not like Our gas engines.

Theres alot of people who (myself too until about a year ago) think that the principals of diesel are the same as gas. I didnt want all the newbs to the diesel scene thinkin everytime they passed one that it was a busted POS.

I'd do a diesel swap in a minute if diesel wasn't nearly twice as much as gasoline right now.

Of course some may not agree, but I personally like the first and second gen body style better, but hey, whatever floats yer boat.

Xtreme 4X4 put a VW diesel in a modded Suzuki a few months back and ran it on Vegetable oil.

I don't see why it couldn't be done in a Ranger.

well , i like the truck , and personally i think the bumper would be ok if it was painted plain , and if this was a trail truck , i got ahold of the kid that owns this truck and inquired about a bumper

these are the designs he gave me , i like option a , only problem was , he wanted $1600 to build it , and paint it whatever color i wanted

Ha....I built the last one like that for $250 + material costs, which came out to about $400. He's wanting the same amount as companies like Road Armor/AliArc charge for theirs.
