Crashed my Ranger :(

I pulled out into a highway and took out a cadillac that was going about 60mph. I had a badly bent frame and a messed up right fender, but the hood and left fender were untouched. I am going to be cutting out a front clip off of a '93 Mazda in the next few days/week so that I can quickly get my radiator support back in usable shape.

Oh, and I had to get a new header panel and bumper, but for what I've had to do, it's not been bad since I've paid for it all out of pocket.


Thankfully, the older rangers are easy and cheap to find parts for.

The BEST thing is, is that I only got a ticket for failure to yield, because the girl I hit was driving a car that wasn't hers and didn't have any insurance. So she and her grandpa got the worst of it. They're out of a car and had a bigger ticket.

Always get a ticket and a police report!! I almost got screwed this summer when the other party (at fault) didn't contact her insurance. There is a clause, a loophole, that states if one of the parties cannot be reached or contacted, the case can be dissolved and completely dismissed. A ticket reinforces that a little bit as proof and evidence it happened.

My gf has been driving a messed up car with no A/C in Texas heat still...insurance is entirely too slow as a process. Got everything worked out with out insurances, for the record with nothing out of pocket.

But, glad you are ok, and if the damages are over or even close to the vehicle cost, you can actually get a new Ranger. I doubt that is your case here judging from the damages, but it's hopeful.

that's a shitty deal! if you get into an accident here, you exchange information, if the person f's off and disappears, they get charged with hit and run, and have a warrant issued for their arrest

Not to , but you can be charged with a hit & run here as well. What happened is that we both stopped, exchanged info, filed claims against each other, her claim was dsmissed because she was at fault, and my case ALMOST got dismissed because she wouldn't answer her phone. Claims agent eventually got a hold of her before the 2 month period was up... whew!

As far as I know, my insurance is paying for everything. My uncle's friend owns a body shop and it's getting fixed there. He says it might be totalled. He said the truck is worth about $15k and that just fixing the airbags alone will cost around $4-5k. If it is totalled I will probably buy it back from the insurance company and fix it.

cab hitting the bed is non issue, my 86 does that all the time when it flexes on my mom's crazy-ass driveway, it probably flexed and then snapped back where it's supposed to go.

it VERY well could have slid on the body mounts... they aren't peg and hole fittings, the have play in them... bed could have slid forward, and cab back a little, plus flex... not surprising...

That sucks for you dude. Around my area, I got to be careful about jumpers. People that don't like to brake for the vehicle in front of them, so they jump lanes. Leaving the person behind them with a surprize stopped vehicle in front of them with less reaction time and distance to stop.

And the person that stopped suddenly must have a reason that they did it. If they did it for no reason or not enough reason, then they are very much at fault too. Thou they can easily say that they did it to avoid a collision of their own.

Hope you can get your Ranger fixed up right again.

Good news: Insurance adjuster looked at the truck today. It has about $9,600 of damage, but it is not totalled. They're going to start fixing it today, and should have it done in about 2 weeks.

Actually, I don't know exactly when I'll get it back. They said it's about 10-12 days worth of work, and I know they're starting work on it today, so....but they have other customer's cars to work on too, so I'm not sure when it'll be done.
