crankshaft sensor 2.3 96 motor 91 computer

I had to use the 91 crank & sensor when I did mine.. You have to drill very carefully into the block to match the mounting area for the 91 sensor. Then tap threads into the holes.. Do not forget the ground the dis module. Will not start otherwise...

Jr,when you do make a template,try to make a few copies.There are always guys on here trying this changeover and it would be a great help to them.

Ok I have 1 more question.
Someone said I have to use pulleys off 91. Do I also have to swap the damper?
Pretty sure I do but just checking to be sure.

just the whole crank pulley assembly as seen in the image above, it's not really a damper...

Update: OK I got it running yesterday.
I have a couple of problems
1. All the gauges work except for the Tach, It didn`t work at first, then started to work.
Then stopped working again. I`m going to check wiring and connections to the DIS module on intake today.
2. At higher revs it acts like it is starving for gas and bogs. I`m thinking this is an O2 sensor problem. I used the old sensor out of the 91 exhaust manifold and moved it back a bit on pipe, So I could use the headers. I welded up 1 sensor hole on 96 Cat pipe and used forward hole. Not sure if this is what caused the problem or what.
Right now exhaust is open past the Cat. I`m going to fab an exhaust with muffler and then turn out in front of rear tire today.
Then I`ll go to Vatozone and get it scanned to see what codes I get.
All opinions and advice appreciated.

Got the exhaust on today. I think my ICM or DIS module whatever it is called may be bad.
I`ll get it tested tomorrow and post results. I`m pretty sure that is the problem

Did you change over the crank sensor?No trouble drilling the holes?Did you check the timing and see if the sensor is in the right location?

Yes I changed crank sensor. Didn`t use template, just eyeballed it. Used 1\4 inch allen head bolts. Came out OK seemed a little close on top,but seems to be good.
I also had to file down the little stand on a bench sander because sensor was hitting (it was too tall)when I tighten up pulley assembly.
On my way to get ICM tested, I think I may have had a short. Didn`t tape 1 of my wires coming off of it well enough. Wanted to get it running and then I was going to clean up my wiring. oh well shit happens. I kinda hope it`s bad, cause if it`s not I`m stumped to what the problem is.
BTW does anyone have a ICM they would sell Cheap.

Huh ICM tested good 3 times, Not sure what my problem may be.
Guess I`ll go fiddle with it.

the sensor needs to be within like 2* of crank rotation to run right, or your ignition timing is going to be out of wack and too far advanced or retarded

What do you mean 2*? 2 degrees? Sensor is very close to where it was on the 91. Should be within 2 degrees, I`m going to see if a timing light will tell me anything.
I think I may put the 96 intake and air cleaner assembly on it today, instead of the old one.
Hopefully I`ll figure it out!

It was the crank sensor to far in one direction?Or something else?The newer intake will work but you will have to do some welding or plugging of the center water jacket

No sensor is good I was looking at the wrong mark.
Doesn`t run as well with the 96 manifold. I have 2 sensor plugs not hooked up. 1 is EGR, I`m not sure about the other. Does the 91 have 2 IAT sensors?
There is also no plug for EGR on the 96. I guess PCM took care of it on the 96.
Think I am going back with the 91 intake today, At least I know how to hook it up.
I have no problems with welding or plugging of the center water jacket, because it is a 96 head.
