The P0176 Flex Fuel Sensor Circuit code.

I also checked the ground pin at the connector for resistance again with the added ground that I wired in, and it brought it down from 37,000ohms to 10,000ohms. Which puts it right at the maximum “tolerance” for resistance according to the pin point test I found online.

Hmmm, I just took it out for the first time. Drove it down the street and back, looked for the codes again and they were gone?

Maybe they were still stored in the PCM and I just needed to run the truck a bit.

Never mind, ran it again and the P0176 code came right back. Think I’m going to bite the bullet and order another PCM. My fuse box in the engine bay looks pretty bad, looks like it was almost burnt at one point from the previous owner. I’m wondering if that didn’t damage the PCM.

Is there a certain website I should order my pcm from? From my understanding, I will have to take it to a dealer to have something done to it since my truck has PATS?

1999/2000 Rangers used a separate PATS module, 2001 and up had PATS in the PCM

But I think you can use Forscan software to pair up the PATS module and new PCM
You can for sure do it on 2001 and up

There is a Forscan forum, you could join and ask
Or see if someone else has tried swapping out 1999/2000 Ranger PCMs

Forscan runs on a laptop and you need an adapter cable, USB to OBD2, to hook it to vehicle
Its like an OBD2 reader on steroids, lol, lots of stuff you can do

Yea I’ve done a little bit of research on how to navigate/operate FORScan. I’ve already ordered the adapter you mention and should be here this Wednesday. I also have my laptop and FORScan subscription ready to go.

I might just wait till the adapter gets here this week and see if I can look at the fuel types you mentioned earlier. Just to reassure it is the pcm. I’m aware of the forum you mentioned, I will post on there soon to get some answers.

@RonD finally got my FORScan adapter today. Plugged it in when I got home and here's what its showing as far as fuel frequency and percentages.

The Flex Fuel % seemed to be jumping from 0 to 100% pretty erratically, especially when I gave it throttle. Frequency stayed at 5900Hz the whole time. This is with the makeshift ground still installed and emulator plugged in.

It seems to be idling fine now, but the P0176 code still persists.

I ran it on the road for a little bit, came back and I noticed the frequency spiked to 20,900 for a split second then right back down to 5900.

Maybe that’s what’s causing it to keep throwing the P0176 code?
