My grandmother had a (1976) Maverick coup. Hers was yellow with black stripes over the trunk, roof and hood (I think it was a Maverick Grabber, actually (the sporty version of the Maverick).
In the 1960's we were introduced to cars like the Mustang, Camaro, and Corvette. Exciting times. Those cars became legends. We're still living in the 60's. When will an automaker create the next legend? When will a new iconic name be born??
The Mustang Mach E was given the Mustang brand to help it sell. I have nothing against an electric powered Mustang, but a Tesla wannabe crossover should not have a Mustang name.
Fords compact truck was originally named the Courier, which had been previously used on Ford sedan deliveries. Ranger was a trim package on the Edsel, and then the F-Series trucks and Bronco's.
Ford even took the Ford Ranger 'Tremor' name and switched it from a stereo package to an off-road package on the Super Duty.
WHAT THE FAWK PEOPLE!
Why can't Ford names / brands have a consistent meaning? The definition shouldn't change depending on the year being discussed.
A Ranger could be a:
Compact truck
Fullsize truck
Bronco
Car
A Courier could be a:
Compact pickup
Sedan delivery wagon
Now a Maverick could be a car or a truck??
The new compact pickup is basically going to be based off of a car. Why aren't they reusing 'Ranchero'?
Maybe they should have a contest to name it, and the winner gets one of the new trucks.
Remember when Ford had people signing up to win a new 2019 Ford Ranger? Remember who won it??
Here is your chance to drive the All-New 2019 Ford Ranger before it is available in dealerships. Choose an event using the Event Locator Map or from the Ranger sweepstakes entry at the link below. If you don’t choose an event, you can still enter for a chance to win the 2019 Ranger you’ve always...

They collected information from people when they registered to win, but I never heard Ford announce a winner. Did I miss it, or was this some sort of fraud on Ford's part??
My first car was a 72 Maverick with a straight 6. I miss that car. I traded it for my 83 Ranger. Now hete we are talking about a possible Maverick\Ranger merger combo
I agree with Jim. Ford sucks at naming stuff just as bad as everyone else in the car business. Names used to sound like a car going 100 mph like the "barricuda" and the "challenger" and "firebird" just to name a few.. Not to mention badass trim names like "super snake" or "cobra jet" or "super sport"...… Names now-a-days are like the "rogue" and "forte"..... WTF is a "forte"? What does "forte" even mean?
I think they would have a better time naming vehicles if they let pre-schoolers name cars. You know it would be something like "the go fast machine" or "real speedy" lol but it still sounds better than a "probe" or "santa fe"....
Yeah because BRONCO is so new and unused. Recycling names has been around for a long time. Nothin new. Y'all know companies have to apply for and buy the names they use. So if they have something they'repaying for, they are going to use it. If nothing else, it keeps companies from using a name that has gained popularity from another company. Ranger Courier Maverick f100 coming soon

Remember in Detroit they announced their new big electric sports car as the Mach 1?
Yeah, that was not a big hit with the Mustang community. Heads would have exploded if they actually followed thru and named an electric crossover Mach 1...
How about "Mule" for a vehicle similar to the Ford Transit, but has storage compartments in the floor to ship smaller items of value and these compartments are hidden in order to keep those valuables safe. A larger version of the "Mule" could be made for passenger shuttling, with larger floor compartments. this could even be powered by the Coyote engine.
I see some good potential for revenue in this line. Ford needs to get on this ASAP
