I dunno man im not jewish. But im doing a jewish thing and theres a ton of booze and fish. The guy who passed is a friend of my mothers. Im trying to behave but my mother isn't allowed to come since she is a nurse. So im like here as her family? I have no clue... i was told to go or I'd get punched.

I make fun of christians so this is like a minefeild for me...

Really no different than visiting with any other family, any other religion, where you pay your respects to the family.
Lot of food and drink as we celebrate the person who passed, their life and accomplishments.
Lot of smoked fish, breads, bagels, cream cheese and cheeses...all traditional. And wine...

Just saw Maryland is "partially" reopening some counties this Friday (in time for happy hour I guess). Not sure what is going to keep all the individuals in the "still climbing" counties from traveling to the "leveling" counties to go to a restaurant or hair salon. Not saying it really matters anyway but the logic seems a bit flawed when you're talking about small distances like these. I'm actually on the fence about the reopening process. It's all population density dependent to me. I completely understand the need to provide for yourself and the need to try to protect everyone. These issues are mutually exclusive these days. It's absolutely impractical to shut everything down in high density regions for a year but I worry people don't fully understand the potential surge issues. Really need a decent and VERY widespread serological test. We may be way further along than we think (and this would be a good thing). I was amused by a question a reporter ask Governor Hogan at the conference today as to why all the surge hospitals were barely used. That just means what we did likely worked and if we didn't do it maybe we still wouldn't have needed them but maybe we would have...

I respect religion and religious people i think its a fundamental core of american society. Worship satan for all I care, you are covered. But dont expect me to understand everything about it... I've been to dozens of funerals, my heritage dictates most of them were christian so I understand that more. I have no understanding of the jewish faith. So here I am... being a jerk.

Im not racist.. just confused. Or ignorant even. I do not know the beliefs or customs. So im being a jerk.

Last funeral I was at for a friend, we had a keg in the parking lot.

Your not being a jerk. Your showing friendship and respect in your mom's place, and I'm sure the family understands her not being able to attend.
Guarantee the family is appreciative of your attending.
Just be yourself, but don't mention pooping, furnaces or your basement, and you'll be just fine. Goats peeing is OK.
Eat, drink, and enjoy.
I have been to hundreds of non-Jewish funerals, wakes, and visits and do not and never have understood many of the customs, but I go to show my respect to the family.
I've never been shunned for being a different religion than that of the family, and have always been welcomed.

Im gonna stop messing up this thread and move back to the HOA thread thats already insane. But my point was. Im at a funeral for someone who died of this virus. And im the most antisocial being on this planet. It can happen to anyone. You people out there thinking oh im safe, is your 80 year old mother safe? You wanna risk her life?
