Cooling system component question

Was replacing the heater hoses on my daughter's 87 Ford Ranger (2.3, manual trans). One of the heater hoses has a tee that feeds about a 3/8" hose that wraps around the back of the engine.

I've checked several references, but cannot find what the heck this small heater/coolant line is for.

Anyone know what purpose this tiny coolant line serves?

The hose from the T goes around and connects to the intake manifold just under the Throttle body or carb...same for both FI and carbed...it helps cool the intake...if you change out that line make sure to replace the insulation that protects the hose from the heat at the back side of the engine...
