Lately while driving my BII ive noticed the coolant in the radiator has been around 240 degrees. Ive got a temp gauge on my radiator cap wich tells me. My temp gauge in the truck with is digital tells me that the coolant is at about 193-197 degrees. Still feels like the truck is running a bit warm. Is the coolant in the radiator supposed to be that high?? I flushed the system on thursday and the temp is still that high. Any ideas of what the issue may be?

180deg thermostat
single row aluminum radiator. duel electric fans

Aren't ambient temps in Arizona about 193 right now? LOL

Your fan clutch would be one item, but you state you have E-fans. Do the fans have an adjustable switch? I assume the primary fan kicks on when engine meets op temp and the secondary kicks in around 205F or when you turn the A/C on???
I would definitely pull/test or just replace the thermostat and then recheck temps. If temp is still high replace radiator with an Explorer 2 row for A/C & Automatic.

yah, its pretty damn hot here. heh. Ive just got 2 electic fans. One on each side, pushing and pulling. Truck doesnt have a/c either.... There is a switch than runs both fans at the same time. When I turn the truck on I turn the fans on. I replaced the thermostat in 2007. Its a Jet high flow that I bought off Summit. Last summer the temp on the gauge read 188 deg. Wich is pretty normal for it. I guess I could go and buy a new thermostat for it. I thought about putting that water wetter stuff in it, but I think its a joke...

I would run 10% coolant and WatterWetter. The WW does work but not as well in a high coolant concentration. Water only is more efficient than a 50/50 coolant mix for heat transfer...which is why I prefer only a 10% coolant mix with distilled water. The Jet T/S is probably still good, but throw it in a pan of water with a candy thermometer to test it. If that is good and the coolant mix change doesn't help, then replace the radiator. Buy a 2-row radiator for a 4.0Explorer (automatic w/AC)...it's a drop-in replacement for the stocker. On a side note...have you advanced the timing on it?

I added the WW to 50/50, and it got hotter. heh Ended up flushing the system and putting 50/50 in it again. Maybe temp gauge on the radiator cap is shot. Its not throwing up at all, so thats a plus. Timing is stock. I used to have it at 12, but dropped to 10 so it stays just a wee bit cooler. Ill probably end up buying a new radiator and thermostat. I seen one on radiatorbarn.com for about $120 but am unsure if its for an explorer with an a/c.

Outlet Header: 3 X 18-1/2
Inlet Connection: 1-1/2 PASSENGERS SIDE CURVED
Outlet Connection: 1-1/2
Transmission Oil Cooler: YES
Engine Oil Cooler: NONE
