Hi quick question I'm about to do, a coolant flush but i came across something that was a bit different then other ranger's i have seen (not many)

I found the heater bypass valve on the passenger side but unlike the one that is circle'd in red in the picture above
my bypass valve ( below ) also has two other hoses connected as well so i cant simply replace the valve with the hose Tee that is needed in order to flush because then the other two hoses would be free? (not sure if that would pose a problem in flushing the coolant?????)

if i could separate the hoses (temporarily) so their individual that would be awesome, just not sure which hose goes to wear?? and deff dont want to guess and cause some serious damage

completely lost and confused could really use help! thanks!

(its a 96 4.0 liter v6 ranger)

It's the same idea, just a different design. The one in the first picture just blocks off flow of new coolant into the heater core by closing the hose. The second one also blocks off the heater core, but redirects the flow back into the return line.

Heater cores are non-directional components, so take it out, put your barb fittings in so the core is flowing, do your flush, and when you are all done, throw the bypass in the trash where it belongs. No need to worry about which one gets hooked to which.

so what your saying is i can connect them any way i want? sorry but that just doesn't seem logical??? Since one goes to the water pump and the other to the engine? Do both the left and right hoses flow in the same direction??? Im thinking one of has to be a return line but again not sure (sorry im a bit analytical so i always have to completely understand before i do anything)

and srry for the double post, when i went to the urgent section it said for EMERGEN-C's only so i assumed my quest wasn't that important...

Yes, one hose runs to the water pump, one runs to the engine block. One is feed, one is return. You are correct in that respect.

The part you are overthinking is the importance of the direction. One of those hoses is always going to flow, and one is always going to return, but because the heater core is nothing more than a curved pipe it doesn't matter which direction the water is flowing through it, as long as it is flowing.

If you are any good with electricity think about it in terms of electrons and not fluids.

Which pin is power and which is ground on a light bulb? Doesn't matter, does it, as long as both are there the bulb is going to light up. The heater core is a light bulb that runs on water.

As for "emergencies", that seems to be largely in the eye of the beholder. I see a lot of stuff there that doesn't seem too terribly emergent to me, but a lot of other things in other places that seem to fit better there.
