What do the np242 come in?

I've always want to see if the rear case half of a 44-05 Explorer case would bolt up to the front of a 13-54 Ranger case. I know that a lot of the internals are interchangeable. If it can be, you can build a 13-54 manual shift with a push button on the shifter to engage "auto" 4wd when ever you want.

Don't mind my crazy ideas... Even though they usually work.
I've built a 13-54 E-shift into a manual shift by robbing parts from a 13-50 manual.
I've modified a 13-54 E-shift to have separate sticks for hi/low and 2/4wd. (I know it's not a normal twin stick setup, but I had an idea and ran with it.)
IIRC, the ESOF 13-54 had a similar magnetic clutch to engage the 4wd. You could use that rear case half. Cut the shaft support stem out. Drill and tap the hole for a pipe plug. Use the front half of a 13-54 manual shift. And run power from a push button the the wire that powers the clutch. That would give you an "instant 4wd" button.
DUDE
you are awesome. when I win the lottery I may commission you to do that for me. or the 13-54 one with the button. Honestly I don't know a damn thing you said about what parts for what, but it sounds like you do know so I'll take your word for it. Good to know some of my hairbrained ideas aren't impossible. Are you some kind of engineer in the real world?

Yeah... it would be so much nicer to actually talk face to face then have to type all this sh!t out.
I think we need Bobbywalter in on this too.
OK, but we have to build one of these then:

And it needs a 6BT.
